TWINT ships as the default mobile wallet Swiss buyers expect, PostFinance covers bank payment, and Stripe processes international cards. PayPal and Klarna pay-later are added too. Every transaction settles in CHF and matches how shoppers in Zürich and Genève actually pay online.
The store applies MWST (CH) rates automatically per category: 8.1% standard, plus the 3.8% and 2.6% reduced rates. Each order generates an invoice as a Swiss QR-Bill / e-Rechnung, so customers pay by scanning the QR code and your bookkeeping stays fully aligned with the Swiss standard.
Labels print automatically with Die Post, DHL Schweiz, DPD Schweiz, Planzer and Quickpac. As Switzerland sits outside the EU, the EU 14-day withdrawal does not apply; the Code of Obligations (OR Art. 40a) grants 14 days only for doorstep or phone sales, but we configure a voluntary return policy for your shop.
Yes. A revDSG (revised FADP) cookie and consent banner ships as standard and data is handled to the principles of the Eidg. Datenschutzbeauftragter (FDPIC). Your GmbH, AG or Einzelfirma details land in the footer with the UID number, satisfying the imprint and contact obligations.
A typical launch is 1-2 weeks including the theme, TWINT and PostFinance payment setup, Die Post shipping integration and MWST configuration. Swiss QR-Bill invoicing and the revDSG banner are in the package. We run on a one-time setup fee plus a monthly platform subscription, with no product cap.
The store runs on CHF as the base currency with optional EUR display, and supports German, French, Italian and English for Switzerland's multilingual market. Local SEO is tuned for Zürich and Genève, and we sync products and stock to Digitec/Galaxus, Ricardo and Tutti.ch.
Launching an e-commerce store in Switzerland is materially different from Germany or Austria. TWINT integration is not optional — more than 60% of Swiss consumers expect to pay by mobile wallet. Every invoice must carry a Swiss QR-Bill (mandatory since 2022). One storefront must serve DE-CH, FR-CH and IT-CH. This guide covers Shopware and Magento (Adobe Commerce) stacks, PostFinance Checkout, Stripe CHF, multi-canton MWST and revDSG consent.
In Swiss upper-mid e-commerce, Shopware 6 dominates — deep DACH roots, scales the catalogue, and revDSG-compliant plugins are mature. Magento (Adobe Commerce) wins for large catalogue brands, especially watches/luxury and pharma distribution. Shopify is chosen for speed of launch but TWINT/PostFinance integrations are limited (third-party apps).
| Platform | TWINT Module | QR-Bill Module | Multilingual (DE/FR/IT) | Annual TCO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopware 6 | Official + Datatrans | Topal Solutions / Sage | Native storefront | CHF 18-45K |
| Magento | Wallee / Datatrans | Custom module | Store views | CHF 35-80K |
| Shopify | Limited (Wallee app) | 3rd-party | Markets | CHF 9-22K |
| PrestaShop | Community | Module available | Native i18n | CHF 6-15K |
TWINT is the Swiss QR-code based mobile payment system supported by virtually every Swiss bank. 5+ million active users in a population of 8.7 million make it the dominant P2P and retail rail. An e-commerce store without TWINT begins with a 15-25% conversion deficit. Architectures: TWINT Pay Now (express checkout) or TWINT QR-Sticker.
Two paths: direct TWINT API integration (certification 4-6 weeks) or aggregator integration via Datatrans, Wallee or PostFinance Checkout (2-3 weeks). For most international sellers the aggregator route is faster. TWINT commission averages 1.3% + CHF 0.30 — materially below Stripe (2.9% + CHF 0.30).
PostFinance Checkout (formerly Wallee), backed by Switzerland's postal bank PostFinance, is the leading payment orchestration platform. A single integration delivers TWINT, Mastercard, Visa, Maestro (Visa Debit), American Express, PayPal, Klarna, PostFinance Card and PostFinance E-Finance in one bundle. Since many Swiss consumers are PostFinance account holders, the option also functions as a trust signal.
| Payment Method | Commission | Fixed Fee | Settlement |
|---|---|---|---|
| TWINT (via Datatrans) | 1.3% | CHF 0.30 | T+1 |
| PostFinance Card | 1.5% | CHF 0.25 | T+1 |
| Stripe (Visa/Mastercard) | 2.9% | CHF 0.30 | T+2 |
| PayPal CH | 2.4-3.4% | CHF 0.55 | T+1 |
The old "red/orange payment slips" were fully retired in 2022 in favour of Swiss QR-Bill. The QR code encodes IBAN, recipient, amount and reference per ISO 20022. Legally B2C and B2B alike: every PDF invoice must include the QR-Bill. In e-commerce: when a customer chooses "Pay by invoice" the system must generate a dynamic QR-Bill with the correct IBAN, reference and QR-IBAN inserted on the payment slip.
Open-source swiss-qr-bill libraries (Node.js, PHP, .NET) are available. Shopware ships with Topal Solutions and Sage integrations; Magento needs a custom module. Combined with PostFinance, UBS and Raiffeisen APIs, you can layer eBill (electronic billing) so customers settle in one click inside their bank.
The Swiss Federal Constitution recognises four official languages (DE, FR, IT, RM). In e-commerce practice Romansh is omitted but DE+FR+IT is the minimum. Common architectures:
Authoring: write German first in DE-CH register ("ss" not "ß", "parkieren", "Velo", "Coiffeur"), then localise to Romandie French and Ticino Italian (both diverge from France/Italy parents). Machine translation is acceptable for first drafts but human editing is required — Galaxus aggressively penalises low-quality auto-translation in their listing scoring.
Although federal MWST is 8.1%, cantonal corporate tax effects appear in B2B accounting. Your store must auto-assign canton from customer address, apply the correct MWST class per product (standard 8.1%, accommodation 3.8%, reduced 2.6%), and export the line items for annual ESTV declaration. Zunapro's MWST engine handles this out of the box including Zug (11.85% corporate), Geneva (14%) and Bern (21%) federal+cantonal combinations.
revDSG (in force since 1 September 2023) is the GDPR equivalent; EDÖB enforces pragmatically. For an international seller the critical points are: opt-in cookie management (Cookiebot, Usercentrics, Iubenda CH locale), 30-day response to data subject requests, appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers (Standard Contractual Clauses plus the Swiss amendments). The footer must publish a Datenschutzerklärung / Déclaration de protection / Informativa privacy in all three languages.
The Zunapro CH package delivers: Shopware 6 or Magento backbone + TWINT/PostFinance/Stripe multi-PSP + Swiss QR-Bill PDF service + DE/FR/IT translation layer + Galaxus/Digitec/Brack feeds + Die Post / DHL Schweiz / Planzer carrier APIs + revDSG consent platform. Six to ten-week delivery with a 12-month SLA in the CHF 18-45K annual cost band.
