BLIK and Polish Payment Methods: What Online Sellers Need to Know

2 min czytania Zunapro

How Polish Consumers Pay Online

Poland's payment landscape is uniquely characterized by the dominance of BLIK, a mobile payment system that has no equivalent elsewhere in Europe. Understanding Polish payment preferences is critical for maximizing conversion rates in the country's EUR 20+ billion e-commerce market.

Payment method breakdown

  • BLIK (60%+): Poland's dominant mobile payment method, used by over 15 million Poles regularly. Instant transfers linked to bank accounts through mobile banking apps
  • Online bank transfers via Przelewy24/PayU (15%): Instant pay-by-link transfers direct from bank accounts. Supported by all major Polish banks
  • Credit/debit cards (12%): Visa and Mastercard. Contactless payments widespread. Relatively lower card penetration compared to Western Europe
  • PayPal (5%): Used primarily for international purchases
  • Cash on delivery (4%): Still used by older demographics and for higher-value items
  • Buy Now Pay Later (4%): Allegro Pay, PayPo and Klarna growing rapidly

BLIK: The essential payment method

BLIK is a uniquely Polish payment innovation developed by Polish Payment Standard (PSP), a consortium of the six largest Polish banks. Users generate a six-digit code in their banking app and enter it at checkout. The transaction is confirmed via the app. BLIK processes over 100 million transactions monthly and not offering BLIK in a Polish e-commerce checkout is considered a serious conversion handicap.

Tpay – rising payment gateway

Tpay is a growing Polish payment gateway that offers BLIK, bank transfers, card payments and BNPL options through a single integration. Particularly popular among smaller and mid-sized e-commerce businesses, Tpay provides competitive transaction fees and a straightforward onboarding process. It supports recurring payments and subscription billing, making it suitable for SaaS and subscription-based businesses operating in Poland.

Payment aggregators

Two payment aggregators dominate the Polish market: Przelewy24 (P24), which integrates BLIK, bank transfers, cards and other methods in a single solution, and PayU, owned by Prosus (formerly Naspers), which offers similar integration plus its own BNPL product. Both provide easy API integration and comprehensive reporting for merchants.

Recommendations for sellers

At minimum, offer BLIK, online bank transfers (via P24 or PayU), card payments and at least one BNPL option. Display BLIK prominently as the first payment option. Ensure your checkout page is optimized for mobile, as the majority of BLIK transactions originate from smartphones. Consider Allegro Pay for sales on the Allegro platform.

Zunapro integrates all major Polish payment methods for e-commerce businesses, ensuring maximum conversion rates in the Polish market.
