Germany: the essentials of doing business online

Germany is one of Europe's largest e-commerce markets and one of its most regulated, from the Impressum and GDPR to packaging registration, the withdrawal button and B2B e-invoicing. Zunapro builds the online shop, the company website and the marketplace connections for businesses selling in or into Germany, in German and in your own language.

What Zunapro sets up for Germany

  • We set up the checkout the German way: EUR prices including MwSt. (19% or 7% per product), shipping costs shown upfront, a „zahlungspflichtig bestellen“ button and the „Vertrag widerrufen“ withdrawal function.
  • Via Stripe we enable cards, SEPA direct debit, Klarna (including pay in 30 days), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Wero; other invoice or payment providers we integrate on request.
  • We build the legal page structure — Impressum, privacy policy, withdrawal policy and terms (AGB), company details in the footer and a cookie banner that blocks tracking until consent; the wording comes from you or your legal-text provider.
  • We connect your Amazon, eBay, Otto, Kaufland and Zalando accounts to one panel, keeping products, stock, prices and orders in sync with your shop.

Germany: frequently asked questions

Do I need an Impressum on a German website?
Yes. Under § 5 of the Digital Services Act (DDG), which replaced the TMG in 2024, every commercial website must name the provider, address, legal form, representative, register entry and VAT ID and offer a fast contact route. Missing details are a frequent cause of warning letters (Abmahnungen). We build the page and footer link; you supply the details.
Which payment methods should a German online shop offer?
PayPal and purchase on invoice remain the most used online payment methods in Germany, followed by SEPA direct debit and cards, while Klarna, Apple Pay and Wero are growing. Offering at least PayPal, an invoice or pay-later option and cards covers most shoppers. giropay no longer exists, and Sofort is now part of Klarna.
Do I have to issue e-invoices in Germany?
For domestic B2B sales, every business must already be able to receive structured e-invoices (XRechnung or ZUGFeRD). Issuing them becomes mandatory in 2027 for companies above the turnover threshold and in 2028 for all; invoices to consumers are not affected. Your accounting or invoicing tool creates them; we connect your order data to the tool you choose on request.
