To exchange data with your customer's Steuerberater your software must support one of the official DATEV interfaces: the legacy DATEV-Format CSV/ASCII export, the modern DATEVconnect REST API or XRechnung/ZUGFeRD e-invoice handover.

The GoBD — the Bundesfinanzministerium principles for orderly digital record-keeping — require that every financial transaction be stored in an immutable, chronological, complete and auditable log. When your software amends an invoice, delivery note or stock movement, you cannot overwrite the previous version; only a "storno plus new posting" pattern is allowed.
In practice this drives event-sourcing or hash-chained ledger (Merkle tree) designs at the database layer. WORM storage and long-term retention rely on S3 Object Lock or iTernity iCAS appliances.
Germany's B2B e-invoicing mandate phases in from 2025; by 2027 all domestic B2B invoices must use structured formats. The two relevant formats are ZUGFeRD (hybrid PDF with embedded UBL/CII XML) and XRechnung (pure UBL/CII XML; mandatory for B2G). If your software cannot generate them natively, open-source libraries such as Mustang Project, Konik and Open-Xchange give you a credible starting point.
