LOCAL MARKET GUIDE

France: the essentials of doing business online

France is one of Europe's largest e-commerce markets, with its own card network (Cartes Bancaires), a dense pickup-point network and strict consumer and environmental rules. Selling online there means French-language pages, TVA-inclusive prices, CNIL-style cookie consent and, since September 2026, the ability to receive electronic invoices.

Corsica and the overseas departments (DOM) apply their own special TVA rates, so a shop shipping there should not simply charge mainland rates.

Mandatory pages and compliance

What Zunapro sets up for France

  • Via Stripe we set up Cartes Bancaires, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal, plus pay-in-3x/4x with Alma, Scalapay or Klarna.
  • We build the legal page structure — mentions légales, CGV, privacy policy, mediator details — with SIREN, RCS and TVA number in the footer and a cookie banner with a "Tout refuser" button; the wording comes from you or your lawyer.
  • Corporate websites in French (and other languages) on a .fr domain, with SSL, hosting, maintenance and support included.
  • One panel for Amazon.fr through our Amazon integration, with Cdiscount, Fnac Darty, ManoMano or Leboncoin connected on request for stock, price and order sync.

France: frequently asked questions

Do I need mentions légales on a French website?
Yes. Every professional website published in France must identify its publisher: company name, legal form, address, SIREN/RCS, TVA number, publication director and host. Missing information can be fined. We build the page and footer structure; you or your lawyer supply the wording.
Which payment methods do French shoppers expect?
Bank cards on the Cartes Bancaires network dominate, followed by PayPal and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay. Paying in 3x or 4x (Alma, Oney, Scalapay, Klarna) is common for larger baskets, and Wero is arriving for online payments. Via Stripe we enable CB, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Alma and Scalapay.
Which marketplaces matter in France now that Rakuten is closing?
Rakuten France (formerly PriceMinister) closes in 2026. The main channels are Amazon.fr and Cdiscount for general goods, Fnac Darty for culture and electronics, ManoMano for DIY and garden, Back Market for refurbished products, and Leboncoin and Vinted for second-hand. Our panel already covers Amazon; the others we connect on request.
Can a non-EU company, for example from Turkey, sell to French consumers?
Yes, but VAT applies from the first sale: imported parcels up to €150 can use the EU IOSS scheme, while goods stocked in France require French TVA registration, usually through a fiscal representative for non-EU firms. Since July 2026, low-value imports also carry a flat EU customs duty per item category.
